ABC Development Joins SLANGO to Launch Digital Registration Portal for NGOs in Sierra Leone

ABC Development has officially joined the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (SLANGO) in the launch of its Digital Registration Work Portal, an initiative designed to modernize NGO registration and operational processes across Sierra Leone.

The launch event, held at the Latter Day Saint Hall in Dworzak, Freetown, marked a major step toward improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the NGO sector. Through this partnership, ABC Development supports SLANGO’s transition from paper-based systems to a fully digital platform that enhances governance and service delivery.

The portal, accessible at www.slango.sl, enables simplified registration for new NGOs, renewal of existing organizations, verification of compliance documents, improved coordination among stakeholders, and secure management of sensitive organizational data. Registration fees are Le 6,620,000 for new domestic NGOs, Le 11,621,000 for new international NGOs, Le 4,867,000 for domestic renewals, and Le 9,065,000 for international renewals. All payments are non-refundable and payable to SLANGO’s designated bank account.

Speaking at the launch, Alice James, National Director of SLANGO, described the portal as a product of collaboration with partners committed to strengthening civil society institutions, acknowledging the role of ABC Development in supporting the initiative.

“This digital platform reflects our commitment to professionalism, transparency, and compliance,” James said. “With partners such as ABC Development joining SLANGO, we are making it easier for NGOs to focus on impact rather than administrative bottlenecks.”

SLANGO Board Chairman Christian Martyn Kamara described the portal as a strategic reform that will eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy, improve data accuracy, and provide real-time access to information for regulators, development partners, and NGOs.

Ibrahim Kamara, Chairman of the Steering Committee for National NGOs, said the system will significantly reduce processing time and serve as a central resource hub for guidelines, best practices, and sector-wide coordination.

From the government side, Eric Masallay, Director of NGO Affairs at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), noted that the initiative aligns with national development priorities on technology and innovation. He emphasized that partnerships such as that with ABC Development demonstrate the value of collaborative governance in strengthening regulatory systems and accountability.

Representing the Office of the Chief Minister, Mr. Sheriff officially launched the portal, praising SLANGO and its partners for advancing a digital solution that will improve NGO oversight, planning, and coordination nationwide.

The launch of the SLANGO Digital Registration Portal, with ABC Development joining SLANGO as a partner, marks a new era for the NGO sector in Sierra Leone—one defined by improved efficiency, transparency, and collaboration. NGOs and stakeholders are encouraged to register via www.slango.sl and actively contribute to national development goals.

The portal also provides access to training materials, guidelines, and best practices, supporting capacity-building and professional development for NGOs across the country while reducing administrative delays and strengthening compliance.
